PREPARE your hearts

March 26, 2018

hello! happy monday to everyone!

well, this was an awesome week for Elder De Guzman and I.
We have some really amazing investigators that I would like to tell you guys about.

There is this family named the familia Capuano. They are a family that the missionaries actually found before i got to the area. And pretty much, the dad, Julio, got baptized like 30 years ago, got the priesthood, and then went inactive for like 20 years. And the missionaries found him and his family. Then I got here, and we started teaching them. And I can truly testify to their conversion, because when i first got here they didn't really want anything and now they have a baptismal date for the 7th of April and they couldn't be more ready. Also the cool thing is that Julio lived in Los Angeles for like 15 years so he speaks perfect English. And their daughter Zoe, is 11 years old, and also speaks amazing English. I love this family so much! I can't wait for their baptism. Julio is going to be able to baptize his wife and daughter.

The second one is an investigator named Hebe Joanna. She is a special one. She is 18 years old, and has two kids! She had her first daughter at age 15 and her second child at 17. So she obviously hasn't made the best decisions in her life, but I can truly see her desire to change her life. And it's weird because her grandparents got baptized like 6 months ago and she NEVER ever wanted to listen to the missionaries. And then out of nowhere, she just said that she wants to change her life and start listening to us. So we gladly met with her and put a baptismal date last Sunday. She told us that she has never once felt peace in her life and that's what she would like. So we gave her a blessing, and ever since the blessing, she has been so happy to see us and to learn. I mean, shes still pretty shy but she is learning so much and changing her life. And she has the cutest kids in the world! But anyway, yeah I love Hebe. She even came to church yesterday. But she was super embarrassed because she has a ton of tattoos and she thought everybody was going to judge her. But it's whatever, shes excited to get baptized. We are also teaching her two other cousins Jade and Rubi. The three are all going to get baptized on the 14th of April.

The rest of our investigators are doing great, I'm really excited for the month of April. Honestly my investigators are the only thing that keep me going and keep me motivated right now. They are the best!

My ex-companion Elder Lomeli went home this week. It was sad, but I think the best for him. It was awesome because I asked president for permission to have Lomeli with me in my area for his last day in the mission. It was honestly the best. He started his mission with me, and ended his mission with me. Truly one of the best companions that I've had.

Anyway, my little message for today is for all of you to prepare for general conference this weekend. I'm not gonna lie, I did not really care about conference before my mission, but now it is literally what I look forward to. It's like an addiction. I don't know, maybe it's cause I'm a missionary, but I would just encourage all of you to do whatever you can to clear you schedules are prepare to receive revelation. Something that President Mecham talked about in our last zone conference was how to PREPARE to receive revelation. And it was pretty much because a ton of missionaries showed up late to the zone conference, and so he spoke on how we need to show up on time, and prepare to have the spirit with us and prepare to receive revelation. It's the same thing with general conference, we can't just expect to turn the tv on, on Saturday or Sunday morning and expect the heavens to speak to us. We need to be PREPARED. It is such a privilege we have to be able to hear the general authorities speak, and if we aren't prepared to listen and hear what they have to say, then it will be very hard to listen to the voice of the spirit. Some ways we can prepare is to first off have a specific question or various questions that we want answered. If we think and ponder and pray about those questions all week, they will be answered in general conference. Another thing you can do is read a specific story in the Book of Mormon this week and focus on that. For example, when Christ came to the Americas (3 nephi 11). Read the chapter(s) as many times as you need to. By doing this, you can gain more clarity and feel the power of the Book of Mormon. Maybe, in your free time you can watch old general conference talks to help prepare your mind. There are so many things that we, as members of the church, can do to PREPARE our minds and our hearts to recieve revelation. These are just some things that i'm going to do.
Ultimately, I just wanted to testify real quick that I know The Lord and Jesus Christ loves us all so much. They have prepared a way for each and every one of us. We need to prepare ourselves to be able to follow the plan they have for us. General conference is a perfect way that we can come closer to God. I just know that if we are struggling with something in our life, we can always go to the Lord. But if we truly prepare ourselves for this weekend, I know you'll receive an answer. I'll finish with Alma 16:16. ''And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land, to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming''

I love you all so much and i appreciate all the support I've received from you guys in the first half of my mission! Keep going forward, you guys are the best!

Love,

Elder Te

Week 5 - Figuring Things Out

Whats up everyone!? Hope everybody had a great week! Well, today, I finally hit two weeks in the field, and one month in the mission! I am honestly having a great time here. The city is absolutely disgusting and smells bad, but somehow I find it beautiful! The people here are great! I love meeting new people and teaching investigators! the only thing is that in practically every appointment we have, i always get asked what my thoughts on Donald Trump are... let me tell you, they HATE Trump here. So i obviously tell them I don't care about him. In reality, I don't have a preference. Not into politics. Anyways, I had a pretty good week though. Went on exchanges with the Zone Leaders and we went to work! Visited a ton of investigators. The people here are very very willing to listen to our message. I love it! It's hot here everyday, and there are random thunderstorms every now and then. The food is good but I´ll be honest, lately the food has been getting the worst of me latel...

Remember your covenants!

April 23, 2018 it was a pretty good week here in espartaco! Found some new investigators, put baptismal dates for them! so hope everything work out. They are three kids! so hopefully we can get them excited for baptism! Our investigator Jesus got baptized this week! It was pretty cool. Jesus has been an investigator for like 3 years, but for some reason he stopped listening to the missionaries for like 2 years. His wife recently got baptized, exactly a month ago actually, and so this past month we've really taken advantage of the opportunity and got him excited to be baptized. And Jesus is one of those investigators that you don't really find. His goal wasn't to be baptized. His goal is to get the priesthood and be sealed one day on the temple and baptism is just a step he needs to take to get there. He goes to church every Sunday and actively participates in class! He really wanted to change his life, and now he is baptized! He is such a great guy, and I know that if h...

Happy New Year 2018!!

Jan 8, 2018 sorry I havent written for so long! so much has happened, but then again I feel like not much has happened. My Christmas was pretty awesome here! I'm not gonna lie, it felt nothing like Christmas back at home in Oregon. The reason being... well they just celebrate it differently. There are people who go all out and decorate their homes with lights and Christmas trees, and then there are people that don't really care and just use it as an excuse to party and drink haha. But its cool. Christmas day here is really celebrated on the 24th, so the 25th kinda seems like a normal day. But nonetheless, I got to talk to my family and that's always nice. Then of course new years was this past week, which was pretty awesome too. It was weird because not that many people were out on the streets, kinda just another normal day. Cool story though: On Monday night, Elder Lomeli and I were talking right before we went to bed about the prophets. He was just asking me a bun...
